Niantic Is Building an Augmented Reality Game to Collect Bitcoins

Augmented Reality App

You probably know Niantic. Yes, it’s the company that developed the Pokemon Go mobile game which it was a huge success back in 2016.

Now Niantic has a new idea.

Together with Fold, the company developed the game Fold AR. Through it, as covered by The Verge, the user will have the opportunity to collect Bitcoin. It is currently released in a limited beta version, with the stable version expected to be released in 2022. The Fold app is currently available only in the United States.

What is The Fold Platform

The Fold platform enables players to earn bitcoin when they make purchases with their debit card. The new game expands this feature, allowing players to find bitcoin, and other prizes, hidden around them, by running the game.

Every 10 minutes, a new block containing bonuses falls in the player’s area. When the player claims a block, they can earn satoshis, a small unit of bitcoin, along with other in-app rewards. If the user is unlucky, it can lose its profits in bitcoin – if, for example, it encounters a “poisonous pill”.

To play the game you do not need to have a Fold card, although the holders of these cards receive additional grants and prizes. Once the game is fully released, customers will also be able to exchange bitcoin.
