Bitcoin miners Core Scientific and Riot Platforms report Q4 earnings miss

-

Shares in Bitcoin miner Core Scientific declined after the company reported fourth-quarter earnings that missed analyst expectations. The company’s revenue fell 16% year-over-year to $79.8 million, significantly below the $90.4 million Wall Street anticipated, as detailed in its earnings report. This performance was impacted by a sharp decline in Bitcoin prices late in 2025, which reduced mining revenue by nearly half compared to the same period in 2024.

Core Scientific reported Q4 revenues of $79.8 million, down 16% from the year-ago quarter. This result missed Wall Street expectations of $90.4 million. Its crypto mining revenue fell to $42.2 million, nearly half of its Q4 2024 total.

The company posted a net income of $216 million, largely boosted by a fair value gain of $330.3 million. Its adjusted EBITDA showed a loss of $42.7 million for the quarter.

Bitcoin traded around $68,000 during the period, nearly 50% below its early-October peak of over $126,000. The cryptocurrency ended 2025 at just under $88,500 after a sharp late-year decline.

CEO Adam Sullivan said the company was scaling its colocation platform for AI compute. “We are now past the halfway point on our existing builds and scaling our colocation platform into a 1.5-gigawatt pipeline of leasable capacity,” he stated.

The company is expanding one site in Texas to support 430 megawatts of gross power capacity. It has also increased power capacity at other sites in Georgia and Texas by 300 megawatts.

Shares in Core Scientific (CORZ) ended trading on Monday down 2.8% to $16.49. Its stock fell after-hours but recovered to end the extended session flat.

Meanwhile, rival miner Riot Platforms also posted Q4 results on Monday. It reported revenue of $152.8 million, up 7% from a year ago but missing analyst expectations of $157 million.

Shares in Riot Platforms (RIOT) traded flat on Monday, ending the day at $16.43. The stock saw a less than 1% move in after-hours trading.
