The United States holds 198,012 BTC, about $17.5 billion. The China holding stands at 194,000 BTC, about $17.1 billion, putting it close to overtaking the US.
Those stakes equal roughly 0.943% and 0.924% of the 21 million BTC supply, respectively. According to Bitbo, China could soon overtake the US in national Bitcoin holdings (Ed. note: the margin between holdings is narrow).
The United Kingdom ranks third with 61,245 BTC. Its total sits well below the two leaders.
The shift has prompted strategic concern among investors and executives. Larry Fink, BlackRock CEO, wrote the US dollar may not remain the global standard forever.
China has imposed broad domestic cryptocurrency bans but appears to retain BTC holdings. The US has elevated cryptocurrency policy as a priority since the Trump administration took office.
