A couple in France was held hostage in their home and coerced into transferring crypto assets worth roughly $980,000. The attack happened on Monday morning in the town of Le Chesnay, located near Paris.
Three individuals broke into the home by pretending to be police officers. Once inside, one suspect threatened the woman with a knife and demanded the transfer.
The husband complied with the demand out of fear for his wife’s safety. After confirming the crypto receipt, the attackers tied up the husband and caused a minor shoulder injury to the wife.
The assailants then escaped the scene in a white van. The victims were later able to alert their neighbors, who contacted emergency responders.
French authorities have opened an investigation into the violent theft. Prosecutors in Versailles are treating the case as kidnapping and armed robbery by an organized group.
No suspects have been arrested at this stage. The investigation into identifying and locating those responsible is ongoing.
