FBI Warns Crypto Users of Impersonation Scam on Tron Blockchain

-

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has issued a public warning about a sophisticated phishing scam involving counterfeit tokens on the Tron blockchain. The malicious tokens impersonate the FBI, falsely claiming a user’s wallet is under investigation and urging them to complete identity verification. The agency emphasized it does not issue such tokens or request verification through these methods and advised users to report any interactions to the Internet Crime Complaint Center.

Reports indicate a malicious token circulates with a message claiming a user’s wallet is “under investigation.” The token urges recipients to complete an AML verification process to avoid a potential “total block” on their assets. This scam leverages on-chain token transfers to deliver phishing messages directly into wallets, bypassing conventional spam filters.

Once users interact with the linked website, they are prompted to provide sensitive personal information. The FBI emphasized that it does not issue tokens or request identity verification through such methods.

This approach represents a shift toward on-chain phishing embedded directly within blockchain transactions. Using law enforcement impersonation increases pressure on users to comply with what appears to be an official directive.

The FBI advised users not to engage with any tokens or messages claiming to be from the agency. Users should also avoid providing identifying information to associated websites.

Individuals who have interacted with the scam or submitted personal data are encouraged to file a report. They can do so through the Internet Crime Complaint Center [IC3].
