Bitcoin’s strong January 2026 signals faded as it dropped below $80,000 in February, with U.S.-Iran tensions allowing bearish sentiment to outpace bulls. Even outperforming assets like gold and the S&P 500 could not counteract the cautious market mood.
According to a recent analysis from Santiment, Bitcoin saw its highest ratio of bearish discussions since February 28 across major social platforms. This was confirmed by the Crypto Fear and Greed Index, which has oscillated between “Fear” and “Extreme Fear” since mid-January.
However, Michael Saylor has continued his “buy-the-dip” strategy, teasing that his firm is “Back at Work.” Since February 28, MicroStrategy has made four purchases totaling 44,377 Bitcoin.
MicroStrategy now holds 762,099 BTC, worth approximately $52.6 billion. Despite these aggressive acquisitions, the company’s stock price MSTR was down 2.4% to $119.83 at the time of reporting.
Upcoming events like debates around the CLARITY Act and geopolitical turmoil could shift the market, with Santiment noting markets often move opposite crowd expectations. Saylor maintains a long-term view, recently stating Bitcoin has won.
