India hosts first BRICS Sherpa meeting under 2026 chairmanship, Jaishankar leads talks now

-

India hosted the first BRICS Sherpa meeting in New Delhi under its 2026 chairmanship to set priorities for the upcoming 18th summit and coordinate member work. Sherpas from all member countries met to prepare leaders’ agendas and align on themes for the year.

S. Jaishankar led the discussions in the capital. The delegation emphasized a “people-centric” and “humanity-first” approach.

China’s representative stated “high-quality development of greater BRICS co-operation.” He also highlighted peace, innovation, green development, justice, and people-to-people exchanges.

India’s Sherpa stressed cooperation focused on resilience, innovation, and sustainability. Members brought diverse proposals aimed at strengthening the bloc ahead of the summit.

Sherpas reviewed ongoing initiatives, suggested adjustments, and prioritized alignment for sustainable implementation (Ed. note: BRICS marks its 20th year since formation). The meeting noted the bloc’s expansion from a small group to eleven members by 2024.

The 18th summit in New Delhi will mark the anniversary and aim for greater togetherness. Delegates said the event will showcase BRICS’ evolving agenda and cooperative direction.
