Iran Denies Granting India Special Access to Strait of Hormuz Oil Supplies

-

Iran has officially denied reports that it granted fellow BRICS member India special access to ship oil through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The rumors followed a meeting between Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during ongoing regional tensions. Iranian officials stated the maritime blockade remains in effect for all nations without exception, directly refuting claims of a privileged deal for India.

Iran has denied recent speculation that it allowed its BRICS counterpart India to load oil from the Strait of Hormuz. The country clarified that the blockade remains for all countries until the US and Israel back out from the ongoing conflict.

Iranian officials confirmed that the speculations are incorrect and no special deal has been signed with India. Reports had emerged after S. Jaishankar met Abbas Araghchi, suggesting India received exclusive access.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime route carrying nearly 20% of global oil supply. Nations across Asia and the Global South heavily depend on this passage for their energy requirements.

For India, alternative oil procurement from BRICS ally Russia, as permitted by the US, helps meet crude needs. However, the country still relies on Iran for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The ongoing blockade is forcing limitations on cooking essentials within India due to constrained gas services. Current domestic LPG stocks are reportedly only sufficient for approximately two months.

Should the regional conflict continue, a significant shortage could develop. The hotel industry is already experiencing strain as the government limits gas deliveries to restaurants.
