A class action lawsuit has been filed against the prediction market platform Kalshi. The plaintiffs allege that a “death carveout” for the “Ali Khamenei out as Supreme Leader” market was not properly disclosed to users. They claim the policy was not in the user-facing rules summary and that Kalshi subsequently failed to pay out winning trades based on this rule.
A class action lawsuit alleges that prediction market Kalshi failed to properly disclose a critical rule for a specific political event contract. The plaintiffs characterized the death carveout in the market for the former Iranian Supreme Leader’s ouster as “deceptive.”
The lawsuit filing states this carveout policy was “not incorporated into the user-facing rules summary.” It further alleges the rule was not displayed to notify a “reasonable consumer” of its existence or effects.
Kalshi later acknowledged its prior disclosures were “grammatically ambiguous,” as stated in the legal documents. The case centers on whether users were adequately informed before placing their trades.
The plaintiffs said the platform failed to pay out winning trades based on this undisclosed carveout. The lawsuit seeks class action status for affected users of the platform.
