Nifty Gateway, the Gemini-owned NFT marketplace, will close on February 23, 2026, and has entered withdrawal-only mode so users have about one month to move NFTs or funds. “Today, we are announcing that the Nifty Gateway platform will be closing on February 23, 2026,” stated the platform, which said customers will receive email instructions to withdraw via a linked Gemini Exchange account or directly to their bank through Stripe (Ed. note: this follows a prolonged market downturn).
Launched in 2020, Nifty Gateway allowed credit-card purchases and hosted curated drops from high-profile artists like Beeple and Grimes. Data shows the marketplace facilitated more than $300 million in sales at its mid-2021 peak, according to a company blog post stated.
The platform shifted away from a traditional marketplace in April 2024 and rebranded as Nifty Gateway Studio to focus on onchain creative projects and brand partnerships. Gemini, which acquired the platform in 2019, said the closure will let the exchange concentrate on broader product strategy and build a one-stop super app, stated the company.
Separately, Animoca Brands acquired gaming collectibles firm Somo this month to add playable and tradable assets to its ecosystem. The NFT market showed early 2026 gains, rising about 20% from roughly $2.5 billion to over $3 billion.
