NYSE Partners With Securitize To Build Stock Tokenization Platform

-

The New York Stock Exchange has signed a memorandum of understanding with tokenization firm Securitize to develop a blockchain-based stock trading infrastructure. This agreement will make Securitize the first digital transfer agent for an upcoming platform designed for 24/7 trading of tokenized securities. The move aligns with growing investor demand, as the total value of all tokenized stocks recently surpassed $1 billion.

Under the agreement, Securitize will become the first digital transfer agent for the planned Digital Trading Platform. This role enables it to mint blockchain-based shares for stocks and exchange-traded funds as stated by Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the NYSE’s parent company. The companies plan to develop standards focusing on regulatory, operational, and technology requirements.

This initiative builds on an earlier ICE plan for a tokenized securities venue. The venue is designed to support 24/7 trading, instant settlement, and stablecoin-based funding while preserving shareholder rights.

NYSE Group President Lynn Martin said, “As we explore how tokenization can enhance capital markets, it is critical that new infrastructure is developed in a way that preserves the trust, transparency, and protections investors expect.” This development follows regulatory approval for a similar pilot from Nasdaq.

Investor demand for these assets is demonstrably increasing. The total value of all tokenized stocks surpassed $1 billion on March 10, according to data from RWA.xyz. Over the past month, the number of tokenized stockholders rose by 16% to 193,140.

Leading crypto exchanges are also expanding into this sector. Coinbase recently launched 24/7 stock perpetual futures for non-US traders, offering exposure to major US stocks like Apple and Nvidia. Exchanges Binance and Kraken have launched similar products.
