Prominent venture capitalist Reid Hoffman holds over $6 million in Ethereum, according to blockchain data, positioning his crypto strategy against that of his former colleague Elon Musk. Musk’s companies, Tesla and SpaceX, collectively hold over $1.3 billion in Bitcoin on their balance sheets, highlighting a divergence between two influential tech investors.
Reid Hoffman, the co-founder of LinkedIn, is heavily invested in Ethereum, holds $6.1 million worth of ETH. He also owns a CryptoPunk NFT, which he purchased for 150 ETH late last year.
Hoffman has been a long-time supporter of crypto, leading an investment in Xapo in 2014. At that time, he commented: “Bitcoin has the potential to be a massively disruptive technology.”
Conversely, his former PayPal colleague Elon Musk is backing Bitcoin through corporate treasuries. Tesla, Inc. and SpaceX hold a combined $1.3 billion in Bitcoin on their balance sheets.
Earlier in the week, both Bitcoin and Ethereum gained after positive sentiment from a political speech. However, by Friday, both assets were slightly lower in early trading as broader technology stocks retreated.
Analytics data indicate that SpaceX moved over 1,000 BTC to Coinbase Prime in late 2025. This transaction was worth approximately $94.5 million at the time, amid speculation about a future public offering.
On the Ethereum side, significant planned divestments by co-founder Vitalik Buterin have drawn recent attention. The market has remained largely unfazed by the magnitude of these token sales.
