Shiba Inu Launches NFT Compensation for Bridge Hack Victims

-

The Shiba Inu team has launched an on-chain NFT-based claims process called SOU for victims of last year’s Shibarium bridge exploit. The system provides cryptographic proof of eligibility stored on Ethereum, described as a good-faith effort for potential payouts. However, K9 Finance disputes its exclusion from the process, citing heavy impact, and its DAO has voted to sunset all Shibarium products by February 25, 2026.

The Shiba Inu team has developed a novel on-chain claims system intended to support those affected by last year’s Shibarium bridge exploit. This system, called Shib Owes You (SOU), provides a cryptographic proof of eligibility permanently stored on the Ethereum blockchain.

According to the SHIB team, SOU is a good-faith effort to assist with the recovery of losses due to the September hack. The NFT-based proof provides a transparent record that a wallet address has a valid claim.

Nonetheless, controversies have emerged over the rollout. K9 Finance has publicly expressed concerns over its reported exclusion from the SOU claim process.

The KNINE community claims it was one of the most impacted during the bridge exploit. It cited earlier comments from Shiba Inu developer Kaal Dhairya indicating an intention to ensure everyone was made whole.

As of now, there is no official information regarding K9 Finance’s absence from the SOU system. The project has encouraged users to contact the SHIB team for further clarification.

This news follows K9 Finance’s announcement that its DAO voted to permanently sunset all products deployed on Shibarium. The shutdown is set to be implemented on February 25, 2026, following the fallout from the bridge exploit.

As part of the wind-down process, users are reminded to withdraw funds from Bonecrusher before the deadline. The project stated that a previous issue with detecting knBONE should now be resolved.

Meanwhile, a member of the Shiba Inu team, Lucie, issued a public warning about scam websites posing as SOU claim portals. She warned the community that fake portals are attempting to drain wallets.

As the SOU goes live, the Shiba Inu ecosystem faces renewed efforts to build trust while simultaneously facing scrutiny regarding claims processing.
