Trump Sues IRS, Treasury for $10B Over First-Term Tax Leak; Trump Family Joins Lawsuit Now

-

Former president Donald Trump sued the Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department in a Florida court on Jan. 29, 2026, seeking more than $10 billion over an alleged leak of his tax records from his first presidential term. The filing was made personally, with Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump listed as supporting parties, according to reports.

The complaint alleges the agencies failed to stop a leak by former IRS employee Charles Littlejohn, who admitted leaking thousands of tax records. (Ed. note: a court sentenced Littlejohn to five to six years in prison.)

The suit says those records reached outlets including the New York Times and ProPublica and then spread widely. It seeks compensation for privacy violations and related damages exceeding $10 billion.

Trump’s legal team called for strict accountability and loss recovery in the filing. They also issued a public statement, saying “The IRS wrongly allowed a rogue, politically motivated employee to leak private and confidential information. About President Trump, his family, and the Trump Organization to the New York Times. ProPublica, and other left-wing news outlets, which was then illegally released to millions of people. President Trump continues to hold those who wrong America and Americans accountable.”
