Trump’s Cyber Strategy Mentions Crypto Security Industry Scrutinizes

-

The recently released National Cyber Strategy from the Trump administration has drawn attention for explicitly including cryptocurrencies and blockchain as technologies to be protected. While industry analysts see this as a significant first, they are also scrutinizing other sections that could signal a crackdown on certain crypto infrastructure like mixers and privacy coins. The document also highlights priorities for securing artificial intelligence and addressing the threat of quantum computing.

Cryptocurrency industry executives are analyzing the new National Cyber Strategy for signals on government support. The document explicitly names cryptocurrencies and blockchain as technologies to be protected and secured.

Alex Thorn from Galaxy Digital noted this is a first for any U.S. cybersecurity strategy. He also pointed to language about uprooting criminal infrastructure, which “could easily justify crackdowns on mixers, privacy coins, and unregulated off-ramps.”

The single mention of the technologies is in a pledge to support their security. The broader six-page report outlines priorities for maintaining American dominance in cyberspace.

Nic Carter of Castle Island Ventures highlighted the strategy’s focus on post-quantum cryptography. “Sure seems like they’re taking quantum seriously,” he stated in a social media post.

This comes amid ongoing debate about quantum computing’s threat to Bitcoin. Carter has previously suggested major Bitcoin institutions may grow impatient if developers do not address these concerns.

Artificial intelligence security is another key focus of the strategy. The document commits to securing the AI technology stack and promoting innovation in AI security.

President Trump said the strategy outlines priorities for ensuring America remains unrivaled online. It also emphasizes recruiting the next generation for the cyber workforce.

The U.S. typically releases a new national cybersecurity strategy each administration. These documents outline the government’s stance on emerging technologies.
