Turkey seeks China’s backing to clinch BRICS membership in 2026 amid mixed reactions soon.

-

Turkey has renewed efforts to join BRICS for 2026 and seeks China‘s support. Its 2024 formal application was denied, and Ambassador Selçuk Ünal is holding talks in Beijing to pursue full membership.

Pakistan is also in discussions with China about BRICS membership. India opposes Pakistan’s inclusion because of longstanding bilateral tensions.

The next BRICS summit is set for New Delhi this year, with dates still unannounced. Admission requires unanimous approval from all current members (Ed. note: Induction needs consensus).

Forty-five countries have expressed interest, with 23 formally applying, as reported. Ankara says membership could give the bloc a financial boost, but final decisions rest with BRICS members at the 2026 meeting.
