According to analytics firm CryptoRank, almost every high-value cryptocurrency launched since 2024 is now worth less than its initial listing price. The firm tracked 113 coins with a market capitalization above $100 million, finding that only eight are trading above their token generation event price, with a median return of -95.7%. Hyperliquid’s HYPE leads the exceptions, up 1,519%, followed by Ondo Finance’s ONDO at 101.4%. The firm stated that sell-offs, thin liquidity, and regulatory uncertainty were the main causes of the major drawdowns.
A study from analytics firm CryptoRank tracked 113 coins launched since 2024 with a market capitalization above $100 million. Only 7.1% of these tokens are trading above their token generation event (TGE) price, representing just eight projects in profit.
The median return across all tracked tokens is -95.7%, highlighting a severe trend of post-launch depreciation. The firm stated that sell-offs, thin liquidity, and regulatory uncertainty were the main causes of major drawdowns in these projects.
Among the eight profitable tokens, Hyperliquid’s HYPE leads with a 1,519% gain from its launch price. Ondo Finance’s ONDO follows at 101.4%, with EverValue Coin (EVA) and Midnight Network (NIGHT) posting more modest gains of 20.3% and 16.5%, respectively.
Even among the profitable group, only two achieved triple-digit returns, while six saw double-digit increases at best. The tokens studied spanned a wide range of niches, including DeFi, gaming, and various infrastructure projects.
The findings come as the broader market recovers, with bitcoin climbing above $66,000 this week on higher ETF inflows and weaker US inflation data. The data underscores how difficult it has been for newly launched tokens to sustain their value in the current environment.
