Greenland tensions roil markets: BTC hits weekly low as gold soars to record $4,730/oz now

-

Leaders are planning high-level meetings in Davos as tensions rise over Greenland. The moves follow a Monday escalation after Donald Trump announced 10% tariffs on eight EU nations.

Emmanuel Macron reportedly texted Donald Trump, inviting him to a Paris meeting after Davos with representatives from Ukraine, Denmark, Russia, and Syria. The president also posted that he had a “very good telephone call” with the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, about Greenland and planned to meet with “various parties.” Donald Trump said the island acquisition was “imperative for National and World Security.”

Bitcoin fell from about $93,500 to below $91,000, marking a weekly low after rejection near $95,500. Gold climbed to a new record near $4,730 per ounce, rising roughly $120 since Monday morning.

France has pushed the EU to consider using a so-called “trade bazooka” against the United States. (Ed. note: Reports say this tool has never been used before.)
