Researchers from East Texas A&M University have developed the first quantum-proof defense for Bitcoin’s Lightning Network, called Post-Quantum Lightning Network (PQLN). The system, published as a paper, uses quantum-resistant cryptography to prevent attackers from recording Lightning payments today and decrypting them later when quantum computers arrive. PQLN does not alter Bitcoin’s core code and works alongside existing nodes. This milestone addresses longstanding concerns about quantum computers breaking Bitcoin’s cryptographic security, a risk highlighted by Google in a paper earlier this year.
