Caroline Ellison to be released after 440 days in custody, Alameda CEO to exit NY facility

-

Caroline Ellison, former CEO of Alameda Research, is scheduled for release Wednesday from federal custody. She has served 440 days of a two-year sentence after pleading guilty and cooperating with prosecutors.

She reported to prison in Danbury, Connecticut, more than a year ago. Officials transferred her to a Residential Reentry Management office in New York in October, and her X profile was referenced in coverage.

After the November 2022 collapse of FTX, Ellison and other executives faced fraud and money-laundering charges. She testified against Sam Bankman-Fried and accepted a cooperation plea.

Sam Bankman-Fried was sentenced to 25 years and is set to be released in 2044. Ryan Salame leaves in 2030; Nishad Singh and Gary Wang got time served and remain free.

A consent judgment from the US SEC bars them from holding leadership roles. Ellison received a 10-year officer-and-director ban, while Wang and Singh received eight-year bans.

Bankman-Fried appealed his conviction and sentence and awaits a decision from the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit after a Nov. 4 hearing.
