Cosmostation Wallet to Shut Down, Key Exports Only From Sept 1

-

Cosmostation, the second-largest wallet in the Cosmos ecosystem, has announced it will discontinue services starting September 1, 2026. Only seed phrase and private key exports will remain functional across iOS, Android, and Chrome extension versions, with all other features gradually removed until full closure. The shutdown reflects broader industry consolidation as wallets face rising compliance, maintenance, and security costs. Users’ assets remain safe as long as keys are saved, but developers must update dApp integrations and exchanges should provide migration routes. The move highlights the shift toward wallets that also function as onramps, analytics platforms, and compliance layers.

Cosmostation, which launched in 2018 and was the first wallet to integrate multiple tokens and features of the Cosmos ecosystem, has shared that the wallet will be discontinued by services. Starting September 1, only the exporting of seed phrases and private keys through iOS, Android, and Chrome extension versions will be supported.

All other functionalities will be gradually eliminated until the app is terminated. The closure affects not only users but also developers, as Cosmostation is the second biggest wallet in the Cosmos ecosystem.

Cosmostation has stated that the company will not do further wallet software development but will only support the basic functions of exporting keys. After careful consideration, we have decided to discontinue Cosmostation Wallet. We sincerely thank everyone who has used the Cosmostation Wallet over the years, the team posted on X.

Retail investors, validators, and developers who used Cosmostation on different Cosmos chains for staking, governance, and IBC transactions are the most severely affected. The shutdown reflects broader industry consolidation as non-custodial wallets face rising compliance, maintenance, and security costs alongside stricter regulatory requirements.

Rival firms like Keplr, Leap, and Leap Mobile have succeeded via Interchain cross-chain integrations. Cosmostation’s departure shows that being active across different blockchains, providing constant updates, and offering developer tools are now baseline requirements.

The community’s primary concern is fragmented users rather than asset loss, as long as users save their keys before the service ends. Developers must update dApp integrations, and exchanges should provide migration routes, aligning with the industry’s move toward wallets that function as onramps, analytics platforms, and compliance layers.
