At least 88 individuals, including ten minors, have been indicted in France over alleged wrench attacks targeting cryptocurrency owners. According to national prosecutor Vanessa Perrée, these charges are linked to 12 separate cases involving physical extortion to steal crypto assets. Seventy-five of the accused are currently held in pre-trial detention as investigations continue.

Wrench attacks involve using physical force to gain access to victims’ crypto wallets. These incidents have manifested as home invasions, kidnappings, and other extortion attempts.
Perrée noted that 75 of the alleged offenders are being held in pre-trial detention. The cases are monitored by the National Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (PNACO).
The investigations found some alleged offenders were involved in multiple incidents. Law enforcement agencies have been actively investigating these specific physical attacks.
