India to Chair BRICS 2026 in New Delhi bloc aims for multipolar finance and local currencies

-

According to, the 18th summit will be chaired by India in New Delhi in 2026. The agenda centers on the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability” and the “humanity first” vision (Ed. note: exact 2026 dates remain unannounced).

Key goals include expanding local currency use for trade, debating a gold-backed mechanism, and reviewing expansion strategy. They will also study multipolar payment settlements and linking central bank digital currencies for trade.

BRICS‘ 11-member bloc aims to reduce dependence on Western systems and grow self-reliance. Members seek a multipolar world where local currencies coexist with the dollar, euro, and pound.

No major policies were announced in 2025, but the 2026 summit could change direction. India appears committed to pushing for greater independence within the alliance.
