Tokyo-listed investment firm Metaplanet has raised $137 million to significantly expand its Bitcoin holdings. The company stated the capital will accelerate its BTC acquisition strategy, building upon a portfolio that grew 568% in 2025. Metaplanet currently holds 35,102 BTC and aims to join the elite “1% Bitcoin Club” owned by entities like Michael Saylor‘s MicroStrategy.
On January 29, 2026, Metaplanet raised ¥21 billion, equivalent to $137 million, to fund further Bitcoin purchases. The capital came from a share sale and one-year warrants issued at a premium to the market price.
CEO Simon Gerovich stated, “The raised capital will accelerate our Bitcoin strategy, enabling us to further expand our holdings.” The new share issuance caused a 3.54% dilution for existing shareholders. The company believes this impact will not be significant in the long term.
The move reinforces Metaplanet’s strong commitment to Bitcoin despite its well-known volatility. The firm’s BTC holdings had already surged 568% throughout the previous year.
Metaplanet aims to join the exclusive “1% Bitcoin Club,” referencing large holders like Satoshi Nakamoto and Michael Saylor. With the new capital, the company is positioned to increase its influence within the BTC market.
At the time of reporting, Bitcoin’s price had fallen below $85,000. A continued price decline could present a risk to Metaplanet’s acquisition plans.
