MicroStrategy faces between $10.8 billion and $11.8 billion in paper losses on its Bitcoin treasury, as prolonged market weakness tests the company’s strategy. The firm’s Bitcoin-focused approach has significantly underperformed the S&P 500, which gained 116% over the same period. Technical analysis indicates Bitcoin remains under bearish control, trading well below its key moving averages and facing downside risks toward the $60,000 level.
MicroStrategy is confronting the largest unrealized loss on its Bitcoin holdings, with losses reaching approximately $10.8 billion. After nearly six years of accumulation, the company’s overall Bitcoin position has fallen around 17% below its total acquisition cost.
During the same period, the S&P 500 delivered gains of about 116%, significantly outperforming MicroStrategy’s strategy. This highlights the risks associated with concentrated cryptocurrency exposure.
Additional pressure emerged after the company sold 32 Bitcoins at an average price of $77,135 per coin. Subsequent market declines pushed the unrealized losses on its remaining holdings to roughly $11.8 billion.
Meanwhile, MSTR shares have fallen about 77% from their all-time high. This underscores the severity of the market downturn’s impact on the company.
From a price perspective, Bitcoin continues to face strong selling pressure below key support levels and major moving averages. The price is currently around $62,663, well below its 20, 50, and 100-day exponential moving averages.
This positioning indicates a strong bearish trend with sellers in control for the short and medium term. Any upward moves are likely to face strong resistance at several key technical levels.
On the downside, the immediate target is the psychological $60,000 level, with further support at $59,600. Should selling continue, Bitcoin could drop to $58,000 and then to $56,000.
Future performance for MicroStrategy will largely depend on Bitcoin’s price direction. Continued market weakness would further stress both the company’s balance sheet and its share price.
