Moscow Exchange to Launch Crypto Perpetual Futures for Qualified Investors

-

Moscow Exchange (MOEX) will launch Crypto Perpetual Futures for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, and TRON on September 22, available only to qualified investors. The cash-settled contracts track MOEX indices, quoted in dollars and settled in rubles, with no delivery of underlying assets. The launch follows Russia’s new cryptocurrency legal framework effective September 1, which regulates digital asset operations through intermediaries. MOEX reported over 72,000 qualified investors and 600 billion rubles ($6.6 billion) in crypto futures volume since its first products last summer. The new perpetual contracts use automatic rollover and funding parameters set at 0% and 0.35%.

The instruments track MOEX indices for the five cryptocurrencies and are cash-settled in Russian rubles, though quoted in U.S. dollars. Investors gain exposure to price movements without holding the underlying tokens. MOEX reported that over 72,000 qualified investors have traded its crypto-linked futures since last summer, with total volume exceeding 600 billion rubles ($6.6 billion).

The new perpetual contracts use automatic rollover instead of a conventional expiration date. Funding parameters are set at K1 of 0% and K2 of 0.35%, a standard feature to keep contract prices aligned with the underlying market.

The launch follows Russia’s new cryptocurrency legal framework, which took effect on September 1. President Vladimir Putin signed the bill in August, establishing regulated infrastructure for cryptocurrency circulation through intermediaries. The Bank of Russia determined that qualified investors can transact without purchase limits, while unqualified investors face annual restrictions up to 300,000 rubles ($3,300) per intermediary after suitability tests.

Spot ETF flows from September 16 provide context for four of the five assets. According to data, Bitcoin spot ETFs saw net outflows of $295.98 million, and Ethereum products had outflows of $224.11 million. Solana and XRP products recorded inflows of $836,930 and $3.5 million, respectively. TRON was not covered in that data.

MOEX now offers over 180 futures contracts and associated options on its derivatives platform. The new Crypto Perpetual Futures expand its cryptocurrency derivatives lineup while keeping direct ownership of digital assets separate from the trading instruments.
