Nvidia officially launched DLSS 5 on September 3, debuting inside NBA 2K27 and supporting all GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs. The rollout follows a leak of unfinished files and a spring unveiling that drew criticism over facial rendering. CEO Jensen Huang addressed the backlash, stating “I don’t love AI slop myself.” Nvidia stock rose 0.74% to $230.14, nearing its record high. The technology is described as the final stage of the rendering pipeline, not a post-processing filter. Nvidia confirmed it now runs on a single RTX 5090 GPU, achieving a five times performance gain in six months using Multi Frame Generation in 6X mode.
Nvidia DLSS 5 officially launched on September 3, debuting inside NBA 2K27 across all GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs. The release follows a spring unveiling that drew criticism over how the technology handled character faces.
CEO Jensen Huang directly addressed that backlash, stating “I don’t love AI slop myself.” Nvidia confirmed the technology uses the game engine’s own rendered frame as the foundation for what it changes.
The company described the system as “the final rendering stage of the graphics pipeline.” Nvidia also shipped a developer control suite covering model selection, structure intensity, and tone intensity.
Nvidia stock nudged up 0.74% to $230.14 on Thursday, just shy of its record high of $236.54. Investors are weighing the DLSS 5 rollout alongside Nvidia’s broader AI ecosystem moves.
Performance remains a complicated part of the story. Nvidia originally demonstrated the technology on two GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs but now says it runs on a single card.
The company claims a five times performance gain in six months, captured using Multi Frame Generation in 6X mode. Without it, native render rates could sit well below 60 FPS in some scenes.
Nvidia has confirmed DLSS 5 will expand to additional publishers including Bethesda, Capcom, Tencent, Ubisoft, and Warner Bros. Games. The technology remains fully optional and can be switched off at any time.
Nvidia also confirmed a roughly $2.5 billion equity stake in Thinking Machines Lab. The move reinforces how Nvidia is shifting from a pure hardware supplier into a controller of the broader AI ecosystem.
