NVIDIA announced on September 9 that eight Australian infrastructure partners will support an AI factory expansion, targeting two gigawatts of combined capacity by 2027. The project will involve multiple sites and focuses on computing growth. Partners include Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN, Megaport, ResetData, CDC, NEXTDC, and AirTrunk. NVIDIA will supply accelerated computing systems, networking, software, and technical support but will not operate the data centers. The proposed capacity would exceed Australia’s current 1.6 gigawatts of data center computing.

As stated, the involved companies include Firmus, Sharon AI, IREN, Megaport, ResetData, CDC, NEXTDC, and AirTrunk. These firms will prepare land, power access, and powered-shell capacity for future NVIDIA DSX systems.
NVIDIA will supply accelerated computing, networking equipment, software, and technical support. The company will not operate the participating data centers.
The two-gigawatt target represents combined capacity across several projects. This proposed expansion would exceed Australia’s current data center computing capacity of about 1.6 gigawatts, according to figures cited by Reuters.
Sharon AI plans to deploy as many as 68,000 NVIDIA GPUs under the collaboration. These systems will connect through Quantum InfiniBand and Spectrum-X Ethernet networking.
IREN will use NVIDIA’s DSX reference architecture alongside its power and data center experience. Its contribution includes the planned 800-megawatt Bundey campus in South Australia.
CDC currently operates more than 550 megawatts across Australia and New Zealand, with another 800 megawatts under construction. The company says its facilities use renewable electricity and zero-water cooling systems.
NVIDIA did not disclose costs, individual investments, or grid-connected computing capacity. The two-gigawatt number cannot be considered completed infrastructure.
Power availability and grid access will be essential for project implementation. Construction permits will also be needed for each location.
NEXTDC disclosed plans to raise A$1.1 billion (approximately $740 million) through convertible notes to finance its AI infrastructure program. This financing is not limited to NVIDIA’s DSX cooperation.
