The team behind Pi Network has set a May 15 deadline for the implementation of its latest Protocol 23 update. The project’s native token, PI, has recently shown price volatility tied to internal announcements, settling near $0.18 after a surge to $0.20 last week.
The Pi Network Core Team has announced that the Mainnet upgrade to Protocol 23 must be completed by May 15. “All Mainnet nodes are required to complete this step before the deadline to remain connected to the network,” the team stated, noting this upgrade takes longer to complete.
This continues a series of frequent protocol upgrades that began in late February. Major updates included version 20.2, which laid the foundations for smart contract capabilities and was implemented by March 14.
The project’s native token, PI, has recently exhibited price movements seemingly disconnected from broader market trends. Last week, PI surged from $0.17 to $0.20 while other major cryptocurrencies were stagnant or declining.
This rally coincided with growing community anticipation for the new protocol update. The token has since calmed, trading around $0.18 after being rejected at its monthly high.
Historical patterns show PI often gains traction ahead of major project announcements and updates. The token’s recent volatility returned as the community anticipated new information from the development team.
The Core Team also recently highlighted the completion of over 526 million tasks from a million verified users. Market observers now note the token’s historical sensitivity to such internal milestones as the May 15 deadline approaches.
