Polkadot Opens Products Devnet for Decentralized Static Web Apps

-

Polkadot has launched its Products Devnet, a specialized environment for developers to prototype and share decentralized applications as static web pages. The devnet features three dedicated chains: Asset Hub for contracts and assets, People for identity services, and Bulletin for hosting product bundles. Developers use React and the @parity/product-sdk to create apps, register a .dot domain, and deploy via the pad CLI. The initiative aims to reduce blockchain friction while maintaining verifiability, encouraging tailored or industrial-level use cases. Early applications include marketplaces like Mercado and localdot, surveys, and on-chain forums. This launch signals Polkadot 2.0’s shift toward consumer-focused tools, moving away from parachain auctions.

Polkadot has opened its Products Devnet, a specialized space for developers to prototype and publicly share decentralized Products as static web applications. This campaign encourages devs to step outside generic tool usage and propose tailored, intimate, or industrial-level possibilities, according to the announcement.

A web app running inside the Polkadot host is termed a Product. The Devnet reveals three specialized chains: the contracts and assets naming found in Asset Hub, People devoted to identity and personhood, and Bulletin for hosting Product bundles. Developers use React and @parity/product-sdk to create, then register their .dot domain, and finally release via the pad CLI.

Parity and the Polkadot Community Foundation are key architects providing the SDK, DotNS, and Bulletin infrastructure. The model reduces UX blockchain friction while maintaining verifiability. Apart from developers benefiting from feeless hosting and composable identities, the Devnet indicates that Polkadot 2.0 has shifted direction toward targeting consumers, with parachain auctions taking the background.

The first applications using these reference tools included marketplaces such as Mercado and localdot, surveys, and on-chain forums. These applications showed the potential of industrial marketplaces, analytics, and educational offerings, as stated in the announcement. Devnet is a key area in the face of rivalry between Ethereum L2s and Solana consumer applications. What will emerge tomorrow depends on tool maturity, mainnet migration, and developer adoption while Polkadot continues to monitor and improve its product range.
