SC Ventures, the fintech arm of Standard Chartered, has made a strategic investment in crypto market maker GSR. This marks GSR’s first external strategic shareholder since its founding in 2013. The partnership follows GSR’s backing of SC Ventures’ tokenization platform, Libeara, and signals rising institutional interest in crypto liquidity and blockchain infrastructure for real-world assets.
GSR has secured a strategic investment from SC Ventures, the fintech and investment arm of Standard Chartered. The undisclosed investment represents the first external strategic capital for the crypto market maker in over a decade.
The deal reflects increasing institutional interest in digital asset liquidity and tokenization infrastructure. It follows a joint announcement last month that GSR would be supporting Libeara, a tokenization platform backed by SC Ventures.
The partnership advances GSR’s push into institutional crypto capital markets and tokenized finance. GSR is pleased to announce a strategic investment from SC Ventures, Standard Chartered’s fintech arm, the firm stated.
The collaboration could improve cross-border liquidity and settlement efficiency. However, custody, compliance, and regulatory uncertainty remain key hurdles for market participants.
Financial institutions are embracing blockchain infrastructure while focusing on regulatory frameworks. The combination of traditional finance expertise with crypto-native trading may provide better market structure.
