Triple-A hacked for $9.7M, July crypto losses hit $106M

-

Payment protocol Triple-A has suffered an exploit resulting in the loss of over $9.7 million across four blockchain networks. The hack, which occurred just two days after three separate exploits stole $35 million in a single day, has brought the total value hacked this week to $41.83 million. The attacker bridged the stolen funds to Ethereum, consolidating them into an address containing 5,227 ETH. Triple-A has yet to acknowledge the attack, and deposits remain live, with new funds continuing to be drained in what has been described as a classic hot wallet custody failure.

Payment protocol Triple-A has become the latest victim of a cryptocurrency exploit, losing more than $9.70 million across four chains. According to security firm PeckShieldAlert, the hack drained tokens from TRON, Ethereum, Polygon, and Arbitrum.

The exploiter bridged the stolen funds to Ethereum, consolidating them into an address containing 5,227 ETH, equivalent to $9.696 million. Triple-A has yet to acknowledge the attack, with deposits still live and new funds continuing to be drained.

Users have criticized the silence of the Triple-A team, with some suggesting the incident could involve a developer rather than a hacker. The hack is an indication that hackers could be "outwitting the existing blockchain infrastructure," according to the report.

Two days ago, three separate crypto attacks occurred on BSquared Network, AFX Trade, and the Verus-Ethereum bridge. The new hack brings the week’s total hacked capital to $41.83 million, as per DefiLlama.

The crypto sector has lost about $106 million to hacks this month, with Bonzo Lend leading the largest funds lost this week at approximately $10.05 million. In the past 90 days, $264 million has been extracted through 94 exploits, averaging $2.90 million per day.

The pace of these attacks appears to be increasing "with each new generation of more capable AI models." These hacks reinforce the sentiment that DeFi could be bracing for another fear, uncertainty, and doubt cycle similar to those seen in Q1 and Q2.
