AMD Hits $615 All-Time High, Reaches $1 Trillion Market Cap; First Stock Split Since 2000?

-

AMD’s stock price hit a new all-time high of $615, pushing its market capitalization above the $1 trillion mark for the first time. The chipmaker has not executed a stock split since August 2000, when it conducted a 2-for-1 split. Despite a historic price surge from approximately $3 in 2014 to over $600 in 2026 under CEO Lisa Su, the company’s board has not approved a split. With roughly 1.63 billion outstanding shares, the number of shares has remained stable over the past year even as the per-share price has nearly tripled. Wall Street analysts remain bullish on AMD, citing expected growth in its data center business driven by rising AI demand.

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (AMD) stock price recently climbed to a new all-time high of $615, with the company’s market cap finally breaching the $1 trillion mark.

AMD has not had a stock split since the year 2000. The stock faced three 3-for-2 splits and two 2-for-1 splits between 1978 and 1983, followed by its last 2-for-1 split in August 2000.

CEO Lisa Su has overseen a historic run for the company. The stock price has surged from about $3 in 2014 to over $600 twelve years later, yet the board has not split the stock even once.

The price hitting $600 does not represent a dip in stock supply but rather a stock repricing. AMD reported about 1.63 billion outstanding shares at the end of June 2026, which is about the same as a year before, even as the price of each share has grown nearly 3x.

There is no indication from the board that a stock split is in development. A split could lead to more buyers, as a $615 share price may be too expensive for many retail investors, whereas a $120ish price could generate more retail interest.

Wall Street analysts remain bullish on the stock. The company’s data center business is expected to skyrocket over the coming years as AI demand continues to surge.
