Hsiao-Wei Wang, co-executive director and board member of the Ethereum Foundation, has resigned following her sabbatical. Her departure marks the latest in a series of high-profile exits from the organization this year, contributing to community speculation. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin praised Wang’s decade of work in shaping research culture and building community.
Hsiao-Wei Wang announced her departure from the Ethereum Foundation after a period of reflection during a sabbatical. She stated, “After my sabbatical, I have decided to step down as co-executive director and board member of the Ethereum Foundation effective today.”
Wang acknowledged that Bastian Aue helped guide the transition while she was away. She expressed pride in the community’s achievements and credited the network’s growth to its diverse contributors.
The foundation has seen several senior exits this year, including Tomasz Stańczak, Julian Ma, Carl Beek, Tim Beiko, Trent Van Epps, and Barnabé Monnot. Wang’s exit leaves Vitalik Buterin, Patrick Storchenegger, and Aya Miyaguchi as the remaining board members.
These departures have fueled community uncertainty about internal dynamics. Long-time community figure Ryan Berckmans, however, has stated that people are misinterpreting the situation and that the organization remains committed.
Vitalik Buterin acknowledged Wang’s decade of contribution to the ecosystem. He noted, “She handled the task skillfully and gracefully, and has constantly strived to find and insist on outcomes that are right both for the Ethereum protocol and for the human beings that build and maintain it.”
Buterin praised her early work in organizing research and consensus efforts and for building a strong community in Taipei. Wang stated she is still determining her next steps but remains a proud member of the Ethereum community.
