ASML, the Dutch semiconductor equipment maker, is the sole manufacturer of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography machines essential for producing advanced chips. Companies like Nvidia rely on TSMC, which uses ASML’s EUV systems to manufacture Nvidia’s AI GPUs. Micron also depends on ASML for advanced DRAM and HBM. ASML’s EUV platforms are used by Samsung and Intel as well. The company’s unique market position has driven its stock price up 147.76% over the past year, according to data from Yahoo Finance.
The coming of AI has driven significant growth for chip manufacturers such as Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (AMD), and Micron. One company powering the entire sector is ASML (originally Advanced Semiconductor Materials Lithography).
The semiconductor industry depends heavily on lithographic processes, which use light to transfer circuit designs onto silicon wafers. Extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography is at the forefront, and ASML is the world’s only manufacturer of EUV lithography machines.
Nvidia does not manufacture its own chips but relies on TSMC to produce them. TSMC in turn uses ASML’s EUV machines to manufacture Nvidia’s latest AI GPUs.
Micron is one of the biggest beneficiaries of the AI boom. It is also dependent on ASML to manufacture advanced DRAM and High Bandwidth Memory (HBM).
ASML’s EUV platforms are used not only by TSMC but also by Samsung and Intel to create their most sophisticated semiconductors. It would be much harder to produce today’s state-of-the-art processors and memory chips without ASML’s equipment.
ASML’s unique position has led to significant stock price growth. The company’s stock has risen by 147.76% in the last year, as stated.
