The number of countries applying for BRICS membership is increasing in 2026, confirmed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The alliance’s bold stand against the West and its questioning of Western domination in global finance makes it lucrative for developing nations.
Lavrov explained that the concept of a multipolar world is drawing emerging economies toward the BRICS alliance. “There is interest, as people understand that BRICS is a prototype of the future multipolar world order,” he stated.
He stressed that demand to join BRICS has barely declined in the last five years. Countries that expressed interest are still pursuing membership, with almost no one backing out.
Lavrov said most applicant countries see the United States as an oppressor. “I do not see any decline in interest in BRICS as a result of pressure from Western countries, which, especially the United States, have publicly declared BRICS a public enemy number one,” he said.
He summarized that interest in joining the association remains strong for both membership and partnership status. The bloc’s control over global oil and critical minerals provides member nations with significant leverage.
