Coinbase has expanded its partnership with Webull to bring regulated crypto trading to Canada through its Crypto-as-a-Service platform. Announced on August 31, the agreement makes Coinbase the primary provider for custody, trading, and liquidity as Webull Canada Crypto launches under the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization. Canadian traders will gain 24/7 access to Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP, and other digital assets within Webull’s existing apps. Webull Canada Crypto received CIRO Dealer Member status on June 30, 2026. The rollout follows similar expansions in the United States, Brazil, and Australia.
Coinbase will provide institutional-level subcustody through Coinbase Custody Trust Company, trade execution, and trade finance without pre-funding. The systems fulfill CIRO’s SOC2 Type2 and insurance coverage requirements.
Webull, with a user base of over 25 million worldwide, shifted its U.S. crypto operations from Bakkt to Coinbase in 2025. The company sought tighter spreads and deeper liquidity through the partnership.
The Canada rollout demonstrates how brokerages can enter crypto without developing their own infrastructure. Webull Canada Crypto will compete with CIRO-registered rivals while using Coinbase rails trusted by asset managers and institutions.
Webull plans to onboard beta testers before officially accepting clients with a preselected list of assets. The company cited growing demand for compliant infrastructure.
The next goals include custody transparency, USDC and staking integration. The broader question is whether advanced trading tools can convert promotional signups into sustained retail crypto activity in Canada.
