Crypto.com has filed with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to list equity perpetuals in the United States, CEO Kris Marszalek announced on X. “We’ve officially filed with the CFTC for equity perps in the US, following our Form 1-N acknowledgement by the SEC last week,” he wrote.
The price of Cronos (CRO) rose about 6% on Friday following the announcement. An equity perpetual is a futures contract on a stock with no expiry date, requiring approval from both the SEC and the CFTC.
Crypto.com runs Nadex, the Chicago exchange now operating as Crypto.com Derivatives North America. Nadex and OG.com filed a Form 1-N on September 14, which the SEC acknowledged on September 16. That form registers Nadex as a securities exchange for trading security futures effective the filing date.
The form lists ten stocks for cash-settled futures with expiry dates: Apple, AMD, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Micron, Nvidia, Tesla, and SpaceX. Perpetual versions of those futures require CFTC approval under a policy set on May 29, which mandates case-by-case review.
Coinbase filed its own Form 1-N for single-stock perpetuals on September 1, and Kalshi subsequently sought CFTC approval. CRO has seen a series of positive news this month following a drop below $0.05 on August 7, its lowest since October 2023, after Trump Media cancelled two deals with the exchange.
The token climbed from $0.057 to $0.063 on September 8 after Robinhood took stakes in Crypto.com and OG.com, valuing Crypto.com at $20 billion and OG.com at $5 billion. CRO is up 9% over seven days and 13% monthly per CoinGecko, though it remains about 93% below its November 2021 record.
