Kraken co-CEO Arjun Sethi confirmed the cryptocurrency exchange’s confidential SEC filing for an initial public offering remains active, dismissing prior reports of a pause. The announcement followed a $200 million investment from Deutsche Börse Group into Kraken’s parent company, valuing the exchange at $13.3 billion. Sethi emphasized the company’s long-term strategic focus, stating an IPO would depend on future market conditions and regulatory trust.

Following his remarks, Deutsche Börse Group invested $200 million in Kraken’s parent firm Payward for a 1.5% stake. This transaction values Kraken at $13.3 billion, a decrease from its $20 billion valuation in November when it filed confidentially.

The company revealed to Cointelegraph that the investment aims to merge crypto and traditional finance into a single infrastructure for institutional clients. The valuation shift reflects broader trends in digital asset markets since late 2025.

Sethi downplayed the influence of short-term policy changes in Washington on the company’s strategy. He remarked, “If you are planning to run your company for 3, 5, 10, or even 20 years, then these things don’t really matter.”

He noted that raising capital is not the sole reason for considering an IPO, which would also depend on market conditions and regulatory trust. An IPO would place Kraken alongside other publicly traded entities like Coinbase, subjecting it to greater transparency.

The exchange operates within a challenging regulatory environment where U.S. lawmakers are debating crypto market structure and stablecoin rules. Increased transparency from a public listing could offer institutional investors greater access to digital asset infrastructure.
