-

Ondo Finance has signed a memorandum of understanding with Australia’s Openmarkets Group to explore tokenization and distribution opportunities, though no product launch has been finalized. The partnership aims to examine tokenizing Australian-listed securities and offering access to tokenized U.S. Treasury products, subject to regulatory approvals.

Ondo Finance is expanding its tokenized asset strategy into Australia through a memorandum of understanding with Openmarkets Group. The agreement will examine distribution, tokenization, and infrastructure opportunities, though no product launch has been finalized.

The two companies will explore tokenizing Australian-listed securities and distributing Ondo’s Stocks to eligible investors. They will also examine access to tokenized U.S. Treasury products, with any resulting offering remaining subject to regulatory analysis and approvals.

The partnership matters because Australia is developing infrastructure for institutional tokenized markets. The Reserve Bank of Australia stated that Project Acacia found tokenization could improve market efficiency and resilience, with findings supporting a tokenized-market program.

Ondo already operates a tokenized-securities platform. The company said its Stocks surpassed $1 billion in value locked in May, with over 260 tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs across Ethereum, Solana, and BNB Chain.

The expansion follows the company’s Asia-Pacific strategy. In July, the tokenization platform announced a partnership with Japan’s SBI Group to bring Japanese equities onchain and distribute products through its ecosystem.

Regulation will be central to any Australian launch. ASIC guidance says tokenized assets can fall within financial-product rules depending on their rights and structure, while regulated providers generally need licensing.

Australia’s Digital Assets Framework Act 2026 is scheduled to commence on April 9, 2027. ASIC extended transitional relief for digital-asset businesses to September 30, 2026, while the new framework is implemented.

At the time of writing, ONDO traded at $0.351, up 2.1% over 24 hours, with market capitalization around $1.7 billion and 24-hour volume near $105.31 million. Its daily close fell from $0.384 on September 7 to $0.351 on September 14.

The muted price move suggests the Australia agreement has not produced immediate repricing. That is not negative, because the announcement concerns products rather than immediate revenue or deployment.
