SpaceX (NASDAQ: SPCX) had a historic stock IPO launch in June, priced at $150 on its debut day. The stock dipped below the launch price in July and opened Monday’s trading session at approximately $140, displaying high volatility.
According to a recent 13F quarterly SEC filing, five billionaires have bet big on SpaceX stock. Antonio Gracias, founder of Valor Equity Partners, reported owning 503.4 million shares of SPCX, representing roughly 6.5% of the company’s portfolio. Gracias, a board member of SpaceX, now holds shares worth approximately $86 billion.
Peter Thiel recently disclosed ownership of 427.3 million SPCX shares, with direct control over 17.4 million shares and the rest held through his investment fund. Thiel’s investment dates back to the company’s formation in 2008 via venture capital.
Gina Rinehart, Australia’s richest person, acquired 8 million SPCX shares, now valued at roughly $1.37 billion. This is her largest position ever taken in a U.S.-based company, marking a major global diversification move into space technology.
The company currently dominates the satellite communications sector, with Amazon conceptualizing a similar idea that could take years to form. SpaceX enjoys a monopoly in the sector for now, and more billionaire investors may emerge in future filings.
