Tether Holdings reported a $1.5 billion net operating profit for Q2 2026, bolstering its reserve buffer to $4.11 billion. The stablecoin issuer also increased its physical gold holdings to over 146 tons, diversifying beyond cash and bonds. These financial results arrive as global stablecoin regulations in the US and EU tighten, demanding stronger reserve backing for token issuers.
Tether Holdings has announced a $1.5 billion net operating profit for the second quarter, alongside increasing its reserve buffer to $4.11 billion and expanding its physical gold holdings above 146 tons.
The Q2 operating profit was generated from the yield on US Treasury bills and other liquid assets that back USDT. The company increased its excess reserves—funds held above what is required to cover the circulating tokens—to $4.11 billion.
In addition to its cash and bond holdings, Tether revealed it owns physical gold exceeding 145 tons. This move indicates a strategy of asset diversification beyond traditional government bonds.
Tether remains the largest stablecoin by market capitalization, serving as a key liquidity tool for centralized exchanges, DeFi protocols, and emerging market corridors. The company stated that its strengthened reserves address a major regulatory concern: that token backing is sufficient to meet all demand.
The report follows the maturation of both US and EU regulatory frameworks for stablecoins. These frameworks are imposing higher disclosure and reserve requirements on issuers, making Tether’s financial disclosures increasingly significant for market participants. For exchanges and payment firms, the company’s continued profitability signals an ability to support growth, audits, and product expansion without simply issuing new tokens.
