Tron’s gasless USDT transfers have doubled in 2026, reaching a record $3 billion, according to a CryptoQuant report. The GasFree project, which deducts a small fee from each transfer instead of requiring TRX, has driven adoption, with unique users hitting 30,000 and transactions peaking at 196,000. The median fee is about $1.5 for a $16,000 transfer. However, Tron’s stablecoin volume dominance has dropped from 43% in 2024 to 20% in mid-2026, as competitors like Stripe’s Tempo, Circle’s Arc, and the upcoming Google chain also remove gas tokens.
Tron’s gasless stablecoin transfers have doubled in 2026, underscoring a major pivot that could position it as a top settlement layer for payment applications. According to a report, gasless USDT transfers hit a record $3 billion in 2026, up from about $1.5 billion in January. The volume rose from zero in early 2025 to a record high in mid-2025, underscoring strong adoption.
Conventionally, transferring funds across blockchains requires holding the chain’s gas token for bandwidth and energy usage. For Solana that is SOL, and for Tron that is TRX. Without a gas token, users cannot leverage the chain regardless of their USDT or USDC balance. This friction prompted players like Stripe’s Tempo, Circle’s Arc, and the upcoming Google chain to remove gas tokens.
To counter competition, Tron unveiled the GasFree project, which abstracts the network fee by deducting a small charge from each transfer. The model seems to be enjoying wide acceptance. Unique users of GasFree hit a record 30,000, and the number of transactions surged to a peak of 196,000. CryptoQuant added, “GasFree transactions and active users reached record highs, confirming a structural uptrend.”
Based on the rising gasless USDT volume and adoption, CryptoQuant concluded that Tron is transitioning into the application layer. “GasFree volume now runs well above 2025’s peak, indicating that abstracting fee payment is not a niche convenience but a core enabler of application activity on Tron, letting projects onboard USDT-only users at scale.” Payment integrators like Rhino.fi already leverage Tron for spendable USDT balances.
The gasless transfers are reportedly stable and cheap, with a median fee of about $1.5 for a $16,000 transfer. This addresses volatility in gas charges during peak demand. Tron’s stablecoin volume dominance has dropped from 43% in 2024 to 20% as of mid-2026. It remains to be seen whether other networks like Solana and Polygon will adopt similar models.
