President Donald Trump stated the United States is considering purchasing “sizable” amounts of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies during a White House meeting with executives from Ripple and Coinbase. The announcement came alongside a new SEC proposal to exempt certain token offerings from securities regulations. Trump has made crypto a central part of his economic agenda, pushing for legislation like the GENIUS Stablecoin Act and the Crypto CLARITY Act. Following the meeting, Bitcoin rose above $68,000, Ethereum reclaimed $2,000, and other major tokens including Solana, XRP, and Dogecoin advanced, as the broader market showed signs of recovery from a prolonged bear phase.
President Donald Trump said the United States is considering acquiring “sizable” amounts of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. He made the remarks during a White House event hosting CEOs from crypto companies including Ripple and Coinbase.
When asked about the country buying Bitcoin, Trump stated, “Certainly it’s been talked about. It’s take a lot of pressure off the dollar. It’s been very, very good for the dollar. and I think if you came in with recommendations I would certainly listen.” The meeting occurred one day after the SEC proposed rules that would exempt certain token offerings from existing securities regulations.
The proposal could give crypto companies a clearer route to raising money and issuing digital tokens. It marks another step in the Trump administration’s effort to establish a more favorable regulatory framework for the industry.
Trump has made crypto a major part of his economic agenda since returning to the White House in January 2025. Both the SEC and CFTC have pursued policies aimed at providing clearer rules for digital-asset businesses.
To make the US the “Crypto Capital of the World,” Trump has pushed for Congress to pass several crypto bills, including the GENIUS Stablecoin Act and the Crypto CLARITY Act. Today’s meeting also helped fuel prices of several cryptocurrencies over the last 24 hours.
Bitcoin climbed above $68,000, while Ethereum reclaimed the $2,000 level during US trading. Solana, XRP, BNB, Hyperliquid, and Dogecoin also advanced as the broader crypto market recovered.
This recovery aligns with broader market forecasts from experts suggesting the crypto bear market may finally be over. Should positive updates emerge from the White House meeting and the long-awaited CLARITY Act be passed, the market could rally back to 2025 highs.
