XRP Faces Historic August Slump: Can It Break Four-Year Losing Streak in 2026?

-

XRP closed July 2026 with a modest 3% gain, marking its seventh consecutive positive July, according to data from CryptoRank. However, the asset’s historical performance in August presents a stark contrast, with the past four Augusts all closing in the red. While July has been a historically strong month for XRP, August has proven challenging, with only four of 13 recorded Augusts ending higher. The median August decline stands at 6.57%, against a median July gain of 6.91%. The current bear market conditions, marked by global uncertainty and inflation fears, are cited as factors.

XRP has completed its seventh consecutive July with gains, recording a 3% increase for the month. This extends a bullish streak for the cross-border token that began in 2020, according to data from CryptoRank.

The July performance represents the lowest gain among all positive Julys on record. This modest increase follows a difficult June, during which XRP’s value declined by over 22%. Previous July performances were significantly stronger, with gains of 48% in 2020, 47.6% in 2023, 31.2% in 2024, and 35% in 2025.

The ongoing bear market, global economic uncertainty, inflation concerns, and multiple geopolitical conflicts are cited as factors contributing to the muted July performance.

Historical data for August shows a less favorable pattern for XRP. The asset has closed the past four Augusts in negative territory, with declines of 13.6% in 2022, 26.6% in 2023, 9.17% in 2024, and 8.15% in 2025.

Only four of the 13 Augusts on record have ended higher for XRP. The two most significant positive Augusts were in 2017, with a 52% surge, and in 2021, with a 60% rise. Both of these gains occurred during bullish market conditions, which are not present in the current environment.

The median return for XRP across all previous Augusts is a decline of 6.57%. This contrasts sharply with the median July gain of 6.91%, highlighting the divergent seasonal performance patterns for the asset.
