Binance restricts 16 crypto platforms in three phases over Iran, Russia sanctions compliance.

-

Binance is implementing a three-phase restriction on transactions involving 16 crypto and payment platforms, citing new regulatory requirements related to sanctions on Iranian and Russian-linked services. The first phase began August 7, targeting Iran-based Shelbit and Aban Tether Exchange, which the U.S. Treasury’s OFAC said helped sanctions evasion. A second phase started August 13, blocking A7 Nigeria, A7 Africa, and PilotFinance. The final phase on August 23 will halt transfers involving eleven more platforms, including HTX and EXMO. Binance warned that wallets attempting restricted transactions may face compliance checks and account suspension.

Binance announced the measures on August 14, as stated in its official announcement. The restrictions are being imposed gradually, with five providers already affected.

On August 7, Binance restricted transactions involving Shelbit and Aban Tether Exchange, two Iran-based crypto platforms targeted by the U.S. Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). According to OFAC, these exchanges helped move assets across platforms linked to sanctions evasion and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

From August 13, Binance restricted transactions involving A7 Nigeria, A7 Africa, and PilotFinance. Then from August 23, Binance will stop processing transfers involving Rapira, Aifory Pro, ABCeX, WhiteBird, NoOnecrypto, Tradex, Monease, BitPapa, Exnode, HTX, and EXMO.

The announcement does not mean Binance will remove HTX, EXMO, or the assets available on those exchanges. Instead, it will block transactions involving them once the restrictions begin.

Any wallets that attempt these transactions may be subject to further internal compliance checks. Accounts can be temporarily suspended as exchanges investigate. Until August 23, Binance clients may transfer crypto to or from the remaining platforms.
