Bitcoin short-term holders (STHs) are moving minimal coins despite facing unrealized losses, signaling a lethargic market awaiting a catalyst. A recent price drop to $62,000 triggered a small capitulation episode, but it was less significant than early June’s event. The average cost basis for STHs sits at $67,105, with the $65,000-$67,000 zone acting as a supply barrier. The STH MVRV ratio has remained below 1.0 for 98 consecutive days, currently at 0.94, while the SOPR of 0.996 indicates holders are selling at a minor loss. Meanwhile, the 30-day average taker buy volume on Binance fell to $3.3 billion, the lowest since July 2023. Analysts note that while pressure exists, no mass panic or bearish flush has occurred.
Bitcoin’s short-term holders (STHs), defined as entities whose coins have moved within the past 155 days, are exhibiting subdued activity. According to analyst Darkfost, the price drop toward $62,000 last week triggered a small capitulation episode, but it was not as significant as the one in early June.
The average cost basis for STHs currently stands at $67,105. The $65,000 to $67,000 price range has functioned as a stern supply zone, meaning any bounce could encounter selling from holders looking to exit at breakeven.
Analyst Axel Adler Jr. demonstrated that STHs are underwater, with the MVRV ratio around 0.94. It has remained below 1.0 for 98 consecutive days, showing holders are enduring unrealized losses, though the pricing bands structure remains intact.
The Bitcoin price is still above the -1σ band at $59,300, while the -2σ deep-stress zone is at $49,200. The SOPR, which measures whether holders sell at a profit or loss, currently reads 0.996. This indicates STHs are selling at a minor loss but without a deep flush.
On-chain data from CryptoQuant shows that the 30-day average taker buy volume on Binance reached $3.3 billion. Analyst Moreno noted that this record contraction in aggressive buying volume reflects fading speculative interest and a broader loss in market conviction.
The metric has revisited a zone that marked the 2022 cycle bottom. However, Moreno clarified that this is not a reversal signal but only points to a reset in market participation. A turnaround in MVRV and SOPR back above 1.0 would signal profitability and demonstrate that demand is absorbing supply.
