Brent Oil Falls Below $100 as Iran Offers to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

-

Brent oil futures have fallen below $100 per barrel following Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, conditional on the US lifting its port blockade and halting military operations. The price dip is being watched closely by investors, as lower energy costs could positively impact both stock and cryptocurrency markets. Bitcoin climbed to $87,000 earlier today before facing rejection, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are trading in the green. The moves follow the Federal Reserve’s recent 25-basis-point interest rate hike.

The oil price decline could have a positive impact on stock and cryptocurrency markets. Lower energy costs typically reduce inflationary pressure and improve corporate profit margins.

The cryptocurrency market is already showing signs of a recovery. Bitcoin climbed to the $87,000 price level earlier today before facing a rejection, with resistance observed in the $86,000 to $87,000 range.

The stock market is displaying a similar trajectory to the cryptocurrency market. The S&P 500 and Nasdaq are both in the green today, with semiconductor stocks experiencing a notable surge.

AMD climbed to a new all-time high on Monday, September 21, 2026, with its market cap breaching the $1 trillion mark for the first time in its history. The rally comes right after the Federal Reserve raised interest rates by 25 basis points.

Higher rates have historically led to less risky investments, yet the cryptocurrency market appears to be defying this trend. Given that rates remain high, there is a chance the cryptocurrency market will face a correction.

The Strait of Hormuz remains closed, and an escalation in the US-Iran conflict could lead Iran to walk away from its proposal. President Trump has stated he would wipe out the Iranian leadership if they did not finalize a deal.

Iran’s latest proposal could be a response to President Trump’s threats. If a deal is not finalized, oil prices may surge once again, potentially triggering corrections in both stocks and cryptocurrencies.
