Dogecoin now enters Solana ecosystem via Sunrise, boosting new DeFi access for DOGE holders

-

Dogecoin (DOGE) has been integrated into the Solana ecosystem via the Sunrise protocol, a cross-chain liquidity gateway built on Wormhole infrastructure. Effective September 7, DOGE users can access Solana applications without manual bridging, and Sunrise uses a unified mint to prevent liquidity fragmentation. Within three hours of going live, DOGE generated more than $10 million in Solana trading volume, which reached $19 million within 24 hours. Despite this, DOGE saw a modest price decline to $0.08915. The integration enables DOGE to tap into Solana’s DeFi ecosystem, including platforms such as Raydium, Jupiter, and Kamino.

Sunrise employs a unified mint for incoming assets to prevent competing versions of DOGE from fragmenting liquidity across Solana. Dogecoin has historically had limited DeFi functionality because its blockchain was primarily built for payments.

By becoming accessible on Solana, DOGE can now tap into the chain’s broader DeFi ecosystem. This allows users to trade, provide liquidity, and potentially use DOGE in other financial applications on platforms including Raydium, Jupiter, and Kamino.

Within three hours of going live on Solana, DOGE generated more than $10 million in Solana trading volume, as stated. Over the following 24 hours, that volume reached $19 million.

Making DOGE easier to trade and use on Solana can increase accessibility, liquidity, and potentially demand. However, none of those factors automatically cause DOGE’s price to rise.

DOGE saw a modest drop in the past 24 hours, trading at $0.08915 at press time. Dogecoin traders appear to be losing momentum, with selling pressure increasing and overall trading activity declining.

Despite this, DOGE posted a 27.2% gain over the past month. This coincided with Solana posting a strong 41% August rally, though Robinhood Chain overtaking Solana in daily DEX volume has added to ongoing uncertainty.

The integration could become a catalyst for a new wave of DOGE liquidity and memecoin activity on Solana. The real catalyst would be sustained liquidity and trading activity, rather than initial launch-day volume alone.

DOGE’s perpetual market has remained highly volatile, with several sharp liquidation spikes as the price moved between approximately $0.08 and $0.09. Long liquidations have dominated several September sessions, reinforcing the risk of crowded bullish positioning.

The Solana memecoin market cap was trading at $3.69 billion at press time after a drop of 3.4% in the last 24 hours.
