Mastercard has completed its acquisition of BVNK, a fintech platform that enables stablecoin and fiat payments across 130 countries. The deal, announced as the global stablecoin market surpasses $309 billion, aims to connect traditional payment networks with on-chain infrastructure. BVNK’s technology supports XRP and other digital assets, and the company previously collaborated with Ripple on the RLUSD stablecoin. Both firms are members of Mastercard’s Crypto Partner Program and Multi-Token Network. Mastercard Chief Product Officer Jorn Lambert said combining the networks will deliver a more efficient payment experience.
Mastercard has completed its acquisition of BVNK as demand for stablecoin payment infrastructure grows. The deal adds BVNK’s technology, which supports fiat and digital asset transactions for businesses across 130 countries.
The purchase comes as the stablecoin market stands above $309 billion, according to CoinMarketCap. Mastercard stated its goal is not to create new digital currencies but to connect traditional payment rails with the on-chain economy.
BVNK enables companies to convert, hold, move, and store fiat and digital money. Its infrastructure will support faster cross-border B2B payments, treasury flows, and settlements for banks and fintech companies.
Mastercard Chief Product Officer Jorn Lambert addressed the shift toward multiple forms of money. “By combining Mastercard’s global network with BVNK’s on-chain infrastructure and stablecoin-native technology, we can deliver a more efficient, trusted and seamless payment experience,” he said.
The acquisition intersects with the Ripple ecosystem through BVNK’s existing operations. BVNK’s technical documentation lists XRP as a supported asset, and its multichain system processes XRP deposits and payments.
BVNK and Ripple began their collaboration in 2024 when Ripple was planning to issue its RLUSD stablecoin. Standard Custody executives later identified BVNK as a key partner in the business-to-business-to-consumer segment.
Both companies are members of Mastercard’s Crypto Partner Program, as stated by Ripple. They also participate in the development of Mastercard’s Multi-Token Network infrastructure.
Ripple previously became a member of Mastercard’s CBDC Partner Program. Through these programs, both companies are linked to different payment initiatives of the global network.
